Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Do you fund individuals?
A. The grants program can only make grants to organizations that are not-for-profit. We cannot fund the projects of individuals.

Q. Do you provide scholarship money for individuals?
A. No. The grants program is not staffed or organized to receive, review, or consider applications for scholarships from individuals or from organizations that will provide scholarships to students.

Q. When do I have to submit a grant proposal and how soon will I be informed of its status?
A. The Grants Board makes grants in February, May, and November. In order to be considered, a proposal must be in its final form eight weeks before the meeting.

Q. We received a grant from Trinity in the past. Can we renew our funding?
A. Support for an individual project is limited to three years. Occasionally, one or two year grants can be renewed for up to a third year for the same project. The Trinity Grants Program’s goal is to help our partners develop sustainable projects. In the case of the Spiritual Formation and Development program objective, we do not renew grants.

Q. Does a potential grantee have to be affiliated with the Anglican/Episcopal Church?
A. The organization applying for a grant must have a connection with a Diocese or Province of the Episcopal/Anglican or United Church that is affiliated with the Anglican Communion.

Q. Is there an application form?
A. No. Please refer to the "Funding Guidelines and Limitations" and the "Program Objectives" section on this website for guidance in preparing your proposal.

Q. What is the maximum funding amount?
A. The amount requested should correspond to a realistic assessment of the cost of the program intended. We encourage applicants to ask for enough to complete the project successfully, without exaggerating its funding needs. We intend that every project be self-supporting by the end of the grant period.

Q. What can we use funding for?
A. Please refer to the "Funding Guidelines and Limitations" section on this website.

Q. What is the funding time-frame?
A. You may request funding for one, two or three years. We do not fund programs for more than three years.

Q. Does our project have to been in a certain part of the country/world?
A. There are limitations on the type of grants that will be considered at different locations in the world. Please read the guidelines carefully to determine if it is appropriate to submit a request for a specific location.

Q. What happens after I submit a grant proposal?
A. If the proposal appears to fit one of our program emphases, an acknowledgement letter is sent to the applicant and the proposal is given to the appropriate associate for review. The associate makes a determination based on the specific program guidelines about whether to move forward with the application. Because of our funding limitations, it is occasionally necessary for us to decline proposals for worthy projects. It is not unusual for us to ask an applicant to revise a promising proposal or its accompanying budget.

Q. Do I have to submit my proposal via regular mail, or can I e-mail it?
A. Proposals are accepted via email or regular mail. Please check with us to be sure that the proposal has been received.

Q. I’m not quite sure my project is ready for review. Can I get some help?
A. Yes. Please send a short project description via e-mail or regular mail, and the appropriate program associate will be glad to discuss your project. Preliminary discussions do not guarantee favorable consideration. However, these conversations often clarify how a project might connect with the Trinity Grants Program’s objectives.

Q. I’m not quite sure I know how to write the proposal. Can you send me other proposals that you have received so I can use them as examples?
A. No. Confidentiality prevents us from sharing other proposals. However, associates can offer guidance when asked.
