Father Delgado has revived a dying Irish parish in the northwest Bronx, drawing parishioners from Mexico, the Caribbean, and Latin America. He has led his congregation in part by becoming an active presence in his community, a “street priest” who is known to most in his neighborhood. He has engaged his parish in preventing domestic violence among recent immigrants, as well as working towards reconciliation among Haitian and Dominican communities. Father Delgado was ordained priest in 1989. He is a former member of the Board of Trustees of the Global Aid Foundation and currently works with La Iniciativa Latina, an initiative for Latina/o clergy, laity and youth, created by the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice.
