Mother Overall is one of the best-known urban priests in America. The story of her ministry is featured in Jonathan Kozol’s books Amazing Grace and Ordinary Resurrections. Her ministry is focused on creating an effective church presence among some of the most marginalized people in the South Bronx, especially children. She is involved with daily service ministries, such as a food pantry and after-school programs, as well as the development of transitional housing in the neighborhood surrounding her parish. Before becoming a priest in 1991, Mother Overall was a corporate attorney.
