2007 Fellows

The Reverend Ninon N. Hutchinson

Mother Hutchinson has been priest-in-charge at St. John’s Church in Monticello, NY, since 1995. She is an active collaborator on worker rights and farmworker issues in her small town in rural New York. As part of the Feed the Solution initiative, St. John’s launched a cooking school to improve the nutrition of those who come to their food pantry. When the children of local factory workers began experiencing higher than average birth defect rates, the congregation worked with Rural and Migrant Ministries to engage leaders on issues of workplace safety. They are also exploring ways to purchase fair trade products from Latin America, widening economic opportunities locally and internationally.

A former Trinity Fellow said, “Ninon has kept the needs and hopes of her own congregation front and center. She is not one to be out doing justice work at the cost of her congregation - rather she sees the effort to create a just community as integral to the life of the congregation. Her efforts, for example, to build a relationship with the duck workers, or the low-wage immigrant factory workers is with the mind of strengthening both communities and building bridges.”
