The Reverend Canon Petero A. N. Sabune

Canon Sabune has been the Protestant chaplain at Sing Sing Correctional Facility since 2004. He is also an associate priest at Trinity Church, Ossining, New York. His ministry is instrumental in engaging Episcopal faith communities in both prison ministry and work with immigrants. A native of Uganda, he has been active in reconciliation for the atrocities in Northern Uganda. Canon Sabune is the former vicar for outreach at St. James’ Church on Madison Avenue, dean of the Cathedral of St. Phillip’s Cathedral in Newark, and Global South program associate at the Trinity Grants Program. He is currently a member of the Episcopal Church’s Executive Council. Spotters cited Canon Sabune’s catalytic role in helping faith communities become involved in social transformation.
