A native of a remote village in the Philippines, Hing has worked as a nurse all her life, with special attention to patients suffering from drug addiction and HIV/AIDS, because she feels special empathy for people suffering on the margins of society. Despite losing her husband to the genocide in Cambodia and raising two sons alone, Hing continues to be active in Asian American nursing associations and in many ministries of the Episcopal Church. The Right Reverend Mark Sisk, Bishop of New York, honored Ms. Hing with the Bishop’s Cross in 2006.
