Before we apply any methods of reading scripture, indeed before we open the Bible, we are each situated in own life context. Ignorance of context often leads to confusion and even anger when others find dramatically different interpretations in scripture. Awareness of context opens conversations that get beyond differences and lead to fresh readings. For the last two decades, scholars have applied this insight to create Bible studies that connect scripture with life and allow people of different backgrounds, cultures, and education to come together in the sacred space of Bible study. This class will introduce the contextual dimensions of Bible study through theory and experience.
