The Tree that Saved St. Paul's

The Parish of Trinity Church is undertaking a project with artist Steve Tobin to turn the stump and root structure of the sycamore tree that shielded the chapel and churchyard on 9/11 into a bronze memorial sculpture. The project requires the removal of the remaining tree, but it will be returned once the casting is complete.

This photo gallery tells the story of the tree that protected St. Paul's, a chapel built in 1766 which served as a haven for rescue workers at ground zero. The chapel is known to many as "The Little Chapel that Stood" for its seemingly miraculous survival.
