LentSpace: Trinity Real Estate and a Gift for Lower Manhattan

September 17, 2009

A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place today at “LentSpace,” a new public sculpture park in the Hudson Square neighborhood of Lower Manhattan, along Canal Street.

The sculpture park is the result of a partnership between Trinity Real Estate, which owns the land the park stands on, and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (LMCC). Realizing that the land would not be developed for some time, Trinity Real Estate decided to loan the site to the LMCC.

The rector of Trinity Wall Street, the Rev. Dr. James H. Cooper, sees great public value in the project. “Instead of an empty lot, people will find something thought-provoking and inspiring,” he said. “By strengthening the role of art and culture in the community this way, our hope is to model an approach that can be replicated by organizations throughout the city.”
