Podcast: Estonia to Europe

January 26, 2010

On Monday, February 8, 2010, Maestro Stefan Parkman returns to lead the Trinity Choir in music from Estonia, Finland, and continental Europe. In the podcast at right, acting music director Steven Fox discusses why this concert shouldn't be missed.

Estonia to Europe, a program of virtuosic a cappella music, features works by Baltic composers Arvo Pärt, Veljo Tormis, and Jaakko Mäntyjärvi, alongside powerful masterpieces including Poulenc's Figure humaine, and Schoenberg's Friede auf Erden, as well as lighter music by Pizzetti. This exceptionally challenging program travels from secular responses to war (Poulenc's epic piece followed World War II), and tragedy (Mäntyjärvi's memoriam to the sinking of the MS Estonia in 1994) to Schoenberg's sacred plea for and his musical vision of peace on Earth.

Purchase tickets online here.

Tickets can also be purchased at the Trinity Gift Shop, inside Trinity Church.

Watch concert live at 7:30 pm on Monday, February 8, 2010.
