Progress Report: The Business Start-up Incubator

November 30, 2011

What is it? The Varick Street Incubator was created in 2009 to provide startup companies in New York City with space and basic business services. The 16,000-square foot space was provided by Trinity Real Estate and offers low-cost, high-quality, ready-to-use office space that comes with basic business services and administrative support. The goal is to create jobs -- and companies that call New York City home.

Who’s behind it? The Incubator is co-sponsored by New York Polytechnic, the New York City Economic Development Corporation, and Trinity Wall Street -- an education, public, and private partnership. It was the first of its kind in New York.

Is it successful? Since the incubator was launched, more than 351 new jobs have been created.

What’s next? Expansion! The incubator is set to add a second floor.
