Because of current changes in New York City funding and policies for the homeless, our ministry through John Heuss House at 42 Beaver Street appears to have run its course in its present state. Our commitment to the homeless, however, does not change. Our Way of Life and our hearts dictate that Trinity will continue to serve the homeless in Lower Manhattan. It is our task to discern what shape this ministry will now take. This is an important development in the life of our parish.
To learn more about why the changes are taking place, I commend to you this article by Trinity Wall Street staff member Jim Melchiorre, who has been active in homeless ministries for twenty years, and these words from our Rector.
Throughout the history of Trinity Parish, outreach to the “least of these” has been a consistent theme, taking on different shapes depending on the needs and the economy. With the economy in a slump, our work is more urgent than ever and your prayers are essential.

We were one of the host sites for the Trinity Institute and are grateful to you for the fabulous conference. We are currently ministering to the homeless 7 nights/week in our Winter Emergency Shelter through March. Would like to stay in touch with your progress and process as we seek to engage city officials in next steps to serve the homeless. Our shelter is only temporary. We hope to engage other community agencies through a community needs assessment and would like to share your experiences...successes, failures, resources, etc. Thank you!!
