Aaron Diehl, piano, Dominick Farinacci, trumpet 11.10.11

Part of the Jazz Series through December 1. Aaron Diehl, pianist, is the 2011 Cole Porter Fellow in Jazz of the American Pianists Association, receiving over $100,000 in career assistance. Hailed by The New York Times as a “Revelation,” and the Chicago Tribune as “The most promising discovery that [Wynton] Marsalis has made since Eric Reed,” Mr. Diehl’s distinctive interpretations of the music of Scott Joplin, Jelly Roll Morton, Art Tatum, Duke Ellington, and other masters pays homage to the tradition while establishing his own original voice. Immediately following graduation from high school he toured with the Wynton Marsalis Septet. In addition to the "Mozart Jazz" trio album, he has recently released "Live at Caramoor" from his solo performance at the prestigious festival in the summer of 2008. His latest trio CD is entitled "Live at the Players". When Cleveland native Dominick Farinacci, trumpet, was only 17 years old, Wynton Marsalis heard him play and invited him to New York City to perform with him on a special PBS broadcast “Live from Lincoln Center.” Shortly after that Mr. Farinacci was one of 18 artists worldwide invited to be a part of the inaugural class of the Jazz Studies Program at The Juilliard School. He released his debut CD “Lovers, Tales & Dances” (Eone Music) in 2009, and his second CD “Dawn of Goodbye” (Eone Music) in 2011. In addition to performing, Mr. Farinacci has developed a new educational program for the Center for Creative Arts @ Tri-C in Cleveland, Ohio – a movement to engage young and upcoming artists in residencies throughout the school year to work with students of all age groups in the region. PROGRAM All sets to be announced during performances.
