Emerald Trio 01.26.12

Karen Bogardus, Flute Orlando Wells, Violin, Viola James Matthew Castle, piano The Emerald Trio has been a dream realized for Karen Bogardus and Orlando Wells. For years the married couple searched for a third person with whom to form a chamber ensemble. They were open to any instrument and had considered harp, cello, or piano. In 2005 they met Matt Castle and had the opportunity to work with him on several projects. Sensing a strong musical connection, they realized they had found the perfect fit, both musically and personally. Individually, the members of the Emerald Trio enjoy diversified artistic careers: acting, directing, composing/arranging, recording, and playing concerts. Their musical range spans from Bach to cabaret, from Broadway to jazz and hip hop. Their love of classical and contemporary chamber music was the common interest, and from there the trio was born. The Emerald Trio strives to present programs drawing from their diverse backgrounds, including established chamber works together with cabaret/theater pieces, transcriptions, and original, unknown, and seldom-performed works. In 2010 The Emerald Trio won the Grand Prize in the Continuo Arts Foundation Carnegie Hall Debut Competition; they are scheduled to perform in Carnegie Hall as a result. Recent performances of the Emerald Trio have taken place in Heritage Hall in Hartford, CT, Boston University, and New York’s Bechstein Hall and 92nd Street Y.
