Visitor File: Brianna

Brianna is ten years old. She spent a week in August at Charlotte’s Place participating in the Hour Children Music Camp, singing with other children. Hour Children is a nonprofit based in Long Island City that serves formerly incarcerated mothers and their children. She was a little shy, but didn’t mind answering a few questions.

What’s been your favorite thing about the music camp so far?

My favorite thing is singing.

What songs do you like to sing best?

I like to sing “All of Me” and “Happy.”

Why do you like music?

Because music makes me feel like I can express my feelings in words and just sing them out loud.

Is it ever scary singing in front of people?

I’m not really scared if I’m with a lot of people. If I’m with a friend I’m not scared but if I’m by myself I’m terrified.

Have you done any other fun things this summer?

Yeah. I went swimming.

What other things do you like to do?

I like to dance. I like to look at animals and help animals. I like to spend time with my family.

What are your favorite animals?

My most favorite are snakes, lizards, and crocodiles.

Can you tell me about your family?

There’s my mom and my dad and my cat. I love them as much as they love me.

You have a cat?

I have a cat named Snowball. He’s Siamese and his sides are white. When he rolls up into a ball he’s all white.
