The Sister Is In

Visitors to Trinity Church may have noticed something new a sign that reads: “The Sister is in.” Five days a week, for an hour each day, a Sister of St. Margaret sits quietly in a pew, waiting for anyone who needs to talk, pray, or just sit quietly.

“Sister Gloria and I share this ministry,” Sister Ann Whittaker, SSM, said. “I firmly believe people in the world need someone to listen to them in a non-judgmental way. But it also takes courage for the person speaking to come and do it!”

“It’s hard to say what’s been the best moment, because I don’t know the outcomes of stories I hear," she said. "I suppose the best moment was when a priest from England whose wife was having a problem, and he had never shared it with anyone. So it was nice to see the feeling in him after he shared it, even if I don’t know the outcome.”
