Each year on May 16 the Episcopal Church calendar remembers and honors The Martyrs of Sudan, Christian leaders and lay people who suffered displacement, exile, or death during the war that has overrun their country over much of the past four decades.
In recent years, Trinity Wall Street has worked in partnership with Archbishop Daniel Deng Bul, the Primate of The Episcopal Church of Sudan, as he ministered to the churches in Sudan and South Sudan, Africa’s newest nation created in July 2011.
Five months ago, violence erupted again, taking the lives of thousands and displacing about a million people from their homes. In response, Trinity has made available $300,000 in emergency funding to help provide emergency relief and trauma counseling for internally displaced people in South Sudan and to develop community programs for peacebuilding and reconciliation.
Episcopal News Service published a story updating the current situation, including a powerful video featuring the Most Rev. Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, who visited South Sudan earlier this year.
