A Note from Mother Kristin

There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light. (John 1:6–8)

Greetings, dear Trinity family,

We have been in a state of extended agitation and uncertainty these past months with the pandemic, the racialized violence, the political unrest, and the economic strain. For many, such feelings were further heightened in the wake of Sunday’s tragedy at St. John the Divine.

We might pause for a moment and remember who we are as individuals and together.

We face hard things. We witness to the reality of what is heartbreaking around us. We witness to the reality that we alone are not able to fix things. I recently heard from Father Mark Bozzuti-Jones that a breakdown happens when we try to give what we can’t give, to do what we can’t do, or to be what we can’t be.

We witness to the care that happens. There are kindred people all around doing what they can. You, by your choice to be in connection, reading this message, are witnessing to a network that extends throughout our church, throughout our city, throughout our world.

Let us pay attention to those who testify to the light. Let us remember that we testify by showing up in the way that we are able, offering our attention and our listening presence to another. This is a holy gift.

Please know that we are here as a church community for you. You can find daily opportunities to gather, connect, pray, and share. We will continue to lift our voices in song. We join together to remember who we are. To witness. To testify.

Peace and love,

Kristin
