St. Paul’s Chapel is temporarily closed for restoration. Read more here.
Not surprisingly, the chandeliers in St. Paul's Chapel were a little dingy after a couple hundred years. They were first installed around 1803, and like the rest of the chapel, they were in need of a little TLC.
A chandelier after years of hanging out in Manhattan for a century or two.
The chandeliers were taken down from the chapel in August to keep them safe while the interior is being painted. Then they were taken apart and cleaned by hand, piece by piece.
Now they are ready to return to St. Paul's Chapel looking good as new.
You can see what a dramatic difference a little careful cleaning can make.
