Seven Deadly Sonnets and Other Stories: A Poetry Reading with Pádraig Ó Tuama
Irish poet Pádraig Ó Tuama went through exorcisms and reparative therapies in his 20s for being gay. Now the leader of the Corrymeela Community, Ireland’s oldest peace and reconciliation organization, Ó Tuama has worked in Ireland, the UK, Australia, Uganda, and the United States addressing homophobia and so-called “cure therapies.”
During this special poetry event, Ó Tuama will share poems and stories about the impact of such measures on LGBTQ identities. Sharing defiant sonnets and lyric poetry, this event will be both poetry and protest.
Doors open at 6:30pm. Program begins at 7pm, followed by a reception and book signing.
Ó Tuama’s In the Shelter will be available for purchase. Proceeds from this event will benefit Trinity Place, a shelter for LGBTQ youth experiencing homelessness.
Tickets: $15; available at padraigotuama.eventbrite.com.
