The Sunken Cathedral series has concluded. See below listings to watch video of the performances.

This spring, Concerts at One series focuses on water justice, the subject of the 2017 Trinity Institute National Theological Conference. These concerts feature diverse arrangements of Debussy’s haunting prelude La Cathédrale engloutie (The Sunken Cathedral) alongside compositions focusing on climate change and water, including John Luther Adams' Pulitzer Prize-winning Become Ocean.

"Life on this earth first emerged from the sea. As the polar ice melts and sea level rises, we humans find ourselves facing the prospect that once again we may quite literally become ocean." —John Luther Adams

The name Become Ocean emerged from John Cage’s poetic description of the music of Adams’ mentor Lou Harrison: “Listening to it we become ocean.” In celebration of Lou Harrison’s centennial, the Sunken Cathedral series includes additional concerts featuring Harrison’s evocative music.

Concerts at One presents guest artists with Trinity’s in-residence new music orchestra NOVUS NY performing on the third Thursday of each month.
