A Presidential inauguration is a quadrennial event in the United States, sometimes, like this year, with a new president taking office; at other times with an incumbent remaining in the White House. This tradition began with George Washington in 1789 with the only presidential inauguration in New York City, an event in which St. Paul’s Chapel played a major role.
