The House of Love and the House of Fear: Two Very Different Lives

May 16, 2015

The Rev. Ed Bacon, rector of All Saints Church, Pasadena, leads this quiet day based on his book 8 Habits of Love: Open Your Heart, Open Your Mind. 10am-2pm, St. Paul’s Chapel. Lunch provided. RSVP required: ChristianFormation@trinitywallstreet.org.

“The opposite of Love is not Hate, but Fear. Love and Fear are two competing energies in the wisdom and life of Jesus. Christian Scripture tells us that Love casts out Fear. Henri Nouwen wrote that Jesus’s personal power came from his commitment and ability to live in “the House of Love,” while his detractors were resisting him from “The House of Fear.” Neuroscience shows us that chronic fear actually impedes innovative brain functioning as well as compassionate, collaborative relationships. It is possible to learn and practice habits which ground us in fear-based living when we catch ourselves paralyzed by fear. This quiet day will teach the basic habits of a love-based life.
