Monday Sermon, The Rev. Matthew A. Welsch: "Righting the Balance of Abundance and Scarcity"
Today’s reading from Luke sees Jesus deliver a blistering condemnation of the authorities for exploiting the poor, while simultaneously praising an impoverished widow for her righteous generosity. The Rev. Matthew A. Welsch asks us not to simply take this passage at face value, but consider what Jesus would say about our society during the pandemic, in which essential workers must sacrifice their health and live in scarcity so that others can thrive in careless abundance. The scriptures are Revelation 14:1–5 and Luke 21:1–4.
