Sunday Sermon, The Rev. James I. Clark III: "Listening for the Call"

January 17, 2021

“My call to the ministry was neither dramatic nor spectacular,” wrote Martin Luther King, Jr. “It came neither by some miraculous vision nor by some blinding light experience on the road of life.” The call to be “co-workers with God” often appears unbidden and ordinary, preaches the Rev. James I. Clark III. But it is always persistent and always personal. “Listen with a servant's heart” and the call will ring out clear, even–and especially–when the darkness seems to press around us. “Be encouraged! God is still in the delivering business, still in the healing business, still in the peace-perfecting business and the lamp and light of God has not burned out.” The scriptures are 1 Samuel 3:1–20; 1 Corinthians 6:12–20; and John 1:43–51.
