Thursday Sermon, The Rev. Elizabeth Blunt: "The Youth that Inspire"
“Hope is such an ephemeral virtue,” preaches the Rev. Elizabeth Blunt. “It’s hard to quantify. It isn’t naive but it does require vulnerability.” Yesterday the nation basked in the bright light of hope emanating from the young poet Amanda Gorman. “It wasn’t just her youth and her towering intellect,” remarks Mother Beth, “I think it was the strength of her conviction, an attribute she has in common with St. Cecilia and St. Agnes,” whom the church honors today. May the generosity of spirit these young women expressed remind us that “hope is always there for us to try on again” no matter our circumstances, obstacles, or age. The readings are Song of Solomon 2:10–13 and Matthew 18:1–6.
