Thursday Sermon, The Rev. Winnie Varghese: "We Contain Generations"
Today, the Rev. Winnie Varghese remembers the mystic reformer Teresa of Avila, a 16th century Spanish Doctor of the Church who, like John of the Cross, was a decendent of Jewish Conversos. Inspired by their struggles, devotion, and longing, she reminds us, “we contain generations, their hopes held in the charm of their words, dreams, and stories; the soft place of memory that is stirred up in us in this time of so much loss.” How can our actions today honor the unspoken hopes of our ancestors? The readings are Romans 8:22–27 and Matthew 5:13–16.
