“We can learn a lot from Mary and Gabriel in this complicated and challenging world. Mary had already said ‘yes’ to God before Gabriel showed up. She was the home of God before Gabriel appeared.” Advent is all about reminding us of God’s persistent longing to dwell in our heart. Today’s readings, hymns, and prayers on this fourth and last Sunday of Advent point our attention to dwelling places –be they our hearts, our homes, or even our bodies. At a time when our lives, homes, and country “have felt more like a house than a home,” the Rev. Dr. Mark Francisco Bozzuti-Jones asks us to reaffirm our commitment to nurture and protect the homes we build and believe in. The scriptures are 2 Samuel 7:1–11, 16, Romans 16:25–27; and Luke 1:26–38.
