Sunday Sermon, The Rev. Phillip A. Jackson: "Jesus Our Savior, Not Our Celebrity"

January 31, 2021

Throughout Jesus’ life, we see many who wanted him to dilute his message and his power. “They wanted him to have fame or celebrity. But we see Jesus resist and toss aside any intimations that he would be popular.” Jesus trusted we would believe the maxim that the Rev. Phillip A. Jackson preached this morning: In fiction, evil is always more seductive than good. But in real life, the reverse is true: “goodness is far more interesting.” The readings are Deuteronomy 18:15–20; Psalm 111; 1 Corinthians 8:1–13 and Mark 1:21–28.
