Sunday Sermon, The Rt. Rev. Matthew F. Heyd: “The Subversive Power of Neighborliness”

On Pentecost, the Apostle Peter preaches something extraordinary: There’s no one left out of the Holy Spirit’s embrace. “And because we are in connection with God, we are in connection with each other,” says Bishop Matthew Heyd of the Episcopal Diocese of New York. It’s through these relationships that we’re empowered to live counterculturally, to make change in our communities. “The subversive power of neighborliness shapes lives, changes the world, creates worlds.” Together we can face the injustices of today — and imagine a better tomorrow.

Sunday Holy Eucharist

Pentecost is known as the birthday of the Christian church. Falling 50 days after Easter, it marks the fulfillment of Jesus’s promise to send the Holy Spirit to his followers as a helper and a guide. A principal feast in The Episcopal Church, Pentecost is the culmination of Eastertide and leads into the longest season of the liturgical year. On this holy day, we welcome new members into our community through baptism.

Bishop Matthew Heyd of the Episcopal Diocese of New York joins as guest preacher.

Streamed live and available for on-demand viewing. If you miss the livestream, check back later; the on-demand video will be posted shortly.

Sunday Sermon, The Rev. Phillip A. Jackson: “We Are One”

We’re enamored of seeing ourselves as separate from others, preaches the Rev. Phil Jackson. But the answer to our present-day divisions is to recognize a profound reality: Our lives are intrinsically connected. “It’s hard for us to accept that, and yet it’s a capital-T truth,” says Father Phil. “We are not becoming one . . . we are already one.”
